Eagles' Sproles: Next season will be my last

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles plans to stick around for one more season in the NFL, but only one.

Sproles, 33, said his daughters are "getting to the age that they want their daddy around more," and that he's decided not to play beyond the expiration of his current contract, according to ESPN's Tim McManus.

Sproles signed an extension through 2017 earlier this year.

Whether Sproles is back with the Eagles next season remains to be seen, however. It's possible the team will decide his base salary of $4 million is more than they want to pay.

"That's not up to me. That's up to the people upstairs. I've got nothing to do with that," Sproles said. "But (returning to the team) is the plan."

Sproles is second on the Eagles in rushing this season with 406 yards on 85 carries, giving him a team best 4.8 yards per carry average. He has added 423 yards on 49 catches and scored four total touchdowns.
