Triple Threat
- LW J.T. Miller (54K), C Kevin Hayes (45K), RW Michael Grabner (34K), Rangers (vs. Canucks): The Rangers' third liners start just 29.85 percent of their shifts in the offensive zone, but they end 36.36 percent of all 5v5 shifts there. They own a zone-finish ratio of 55.56, per Corsca.Hockey. Affordable salaries allow for a more expensive goalie in tournaments.
- C Mark Scheifele (70K), RW Blake Wheeler (70K), D Dustin Byfuglien (58K), Jets (vs. Stars): The Jets' top line of Scheifele, Wheeler and Nikolaj Ehlers owns a ZFR of 55.26, with 42.86 percent of 5v5 shifts concluding in the offensive end. Ehlers and Wheeler are both listed at RW, so opt for the higher upside of the latter. Byfuglien's ice time will soon lead to point production.
- C Claude Giroux (67K), RW Matt Read (35K), D Shayne Gostisbehere (54K), Flyers (vs. Red Wings): Read has recently been promoted to the Flyers' top line at 5v5. He also features on the second power play, while Gostisbehere and Giroux work on the top unit. Read shares the team scoring lead with the more expensive Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds.
Goalie Breakdown
- TARGET - Frederik Andersen (111K), Maple Leafs (vs. Kings): Andersen posted consecutive games of at least 40 saves last week, before giving up three goals on 26 shots to the Canucks on Saturday. The Kings are averaging just 7.55 Scoring Chances For per 60 minutes of 5v5, with an Expected Goals For of just 2.31 per 60. They still average 31.4 SOG/G.
- BARGAIN - Cam Ward (75K), Hurricanes (at Devils): No team averages fewer scoring chances per 60 minutes of 5v5 than the Devils. Only the Colorado Avalanche have a lower xGF60. Ward has allowed two goals in each of his past two starts, making at least 25 stops in each one.
- FADE - Braden Holtby (106K), Capitals (vs. Sharks): Holtby faces his toughest challenge of the season against a Sharks team averaging 10.11 SCF60. Only three teams have a higher xGF60 than San Jose's 2.68.
- CONTRARIAN - Steve Mason (99K), Flyers (vs. Red Wings): The Red Wings will deploy a new-look first line featuring Tyler Bertuzzi with Cs Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielsen. Detroit was already averaging the fewest shots on goal per game while on the road, and they've scored just 11 goals in five road games.
Bargain Plays
- C Radek Faksa (30K), Stars (at Jets): Faksa is centering Jason Spezza on the Stars' top line. He gives way to rookie C Devin Shore on the second power play, but he has still topped 16 minutes in two of his past three games. He has just two points on the season, but he has registered three or more SOG in four of his past six games.
- LW Tom Pyatt (26K), Senators (at Predators): Pyatt remains on the right side of LW Mike Hoffman and C Kyle Turris, on what can be considered Ottawa's first or second line. He has at least one SOG in all but one game this season. While Hoffman is the designated shooter of the line, Pyatt has plenty of opportunities for assists and rebounds.
- RW Pavel Buchnevich (25K), Rangers (vs. Canucks): There are plenty of cheap options on the Rangers in a matchup against a tired, last-placed team. Buchnevich is on the fourth line at 5v5, but he also works the point on the second power play. He has scored in consecutive games entering Tuesday.
Top Fades
- D Brent Burns (59K), Sharks (at Capitals): Burns isn't worth his high salary against a Capitals team allowing just 26.9 shots against per game. High shot totals have provided Burns with a very high floor all season. Additionally, the Capitals have an Expected Goals Against per 60 of just 2.23 at 5v5. Burns can't be expected to produce more than a single point at best.
- C Auston Matthews (66K), Maple Leafs (vs. Kings): The Kings allow the fewest shots against per game at just 25.1. Matthews had at least four SOG in each of his past four games, but he wasn't able to score, and loses some off his fantasy floor in this matchup.
- LW Alex Ovechkin (79K), Capitals (vs. Sharks): The Sharks rank second to the Kings in SOG against per game at 25.3. Ovechkin has 14 SOG and three goals and two assists over his past two games, but a lower shot count should be expected. San Jose has an xGA60 of just 2.27.
Contrarian Options
- LW Filip Forsberg (60K), Predators (vs. Senators): The Predators and Senators rank third and fourth, respectively, in total average shot counts. Ottawa is averaging 31.1 SOG for and 29.7 against, while Nashville averages 30.6 for and 31.4 against. This game will be played at a very high pace conducive to offense.
- RW Radim Vrbata (50K), Coyotes (at Avalanche): Vrbata has played at 15 minutes in each of his past four games, totaling eight SOG. The Avalanche have one of the league's worst Corsi For ratings at 48.53 percent.
- D Ryan McDonagh (46K), Rangers (vs. Canucks): McDonagh has played at least 24 minutes in each of his past three games, and he has topped 21 minutes in every game this season. He has only one point on the year, but he'll have plenty of ice time in a matchup where his team is a heavy favorite.
