Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson released a statement Sunday morning regarding his plan to join the growing public protests across the NFL.

In the statement, Jackson said, "Today is the start of my attempts to be part of a solution and start dialogue about the senseless killings of both citizens and police."

He spoke to TMZ Saturday and confirmed that he will be wearing custom cleats with images of police tape on them during pregame warmups and perhaps during Sunday's game as well.

"I have chosen to wear these cleats in pregame today to use my platform as a pro athlete to add to this discussion," he continued in the statement. "This isn't meant to be any kind of protest against the good men and women in law enforcement in this country. I just want to express my concern in a peaceful and productive way about issues that are currently impacting our country."

The Redskins also made a statement on the subject, showing support for both Jackson and law enforcement.
