Salt Lake's Beckerman sets MLS record for minutes played

Real Salt Lake and United States international Kyle Beckerman set the MLS record for minutes played by an outfield player after featuring in the club's 2-1 victory over Colorado Rapids Friday night in Utah.

Beckerman, 34, passes former Tampa Bay Mutiny and New England Revolution midfielder Steve Ralston for most minutes played by an outfield player, with 33,145.

It was one of two milestones achieved by the Western Conference's second-place side on the night, as shot-stopper Nick Rimando joined his dreadlocked teammate in the history books with his 417th regular-season appearance, breaking the all-time record previously held by Kevin Hartman.

Beckerman sits third behind Rimando and Hartman for all-time minutes in North America's top flight.

Rimando already holds a slew of MLS records, including most shutouts in league history, most minutes played, and most starts among shot-stoppers. Makes sense that he won a recent fan vote as MLS' all-time 'keeper.

With the result courtesy of a Yura Movsisyan brace, Real wins the Rocky Mountain Cup and vaults the Rapids for second place in the conference, two points adrift of FC Dallas.
