French gymnast Samir Ait Said posted a video from the hospital following surgery to repair a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg.
In the video, which is in French, Said shows off a cast in the colors of the French flag and indicates he is recovering well. He even suggests his new goal is to recover to compete again in the Olympics at Tokyo 2020.
Said suffered the horrific injury while performing on the vault during team preliminaries on Saturday. He writhed in agony with his leg jutting sideways at a sickening angle as medical staff rushed to help.
Then, adding insult (and perhaps more injury) to injury, medical staff appeared to drop Said as they tried to load his stretcher onto a waiting ambulance.
