Caleb Williams seems like a shoo-in to go first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Of course, that means he'll be the first quarterback drafted.

Part of the allure of the NFL draft is the positional nature of the sport. You can pick 23rd and still get the best available player at a position. In turn, each position group has its corresponding market to bet for the first player to hear his name called.

First wide receiver drafted

PLAYER	ODDS
Marvin Harrison Jr.	-600
Malik Nabers	+250
Rome Odunze	+2500

Players listed at 100-1 or longer are not listed

This market is similarly prohibitive to where the No. 1 overall pick market sat all season, with Marvin Harrison Jr. priced as 85.7% likely to become the first receiver off the board. It asks the bettor to either be sure that the presumed pick is a certainty - like in the case of Williams - or to come up with an alternative player whose stock may soar at the last minute.

First running back drafted

PLAYER	ODDS
Trey Benson	+150
Jonathon Brooks	+250
Jaylen Wright	+400
Blake Corum	+500
MarShawn Lloyd	+500
Braelon Allen	+2500
Audric Estime	+3000
Bucky Irving	+3000

Players listed at 40-1 or longer are not listed

The odds for a tailback to go in the first round aren't high, meaning we likely won't see one picked until the second. Any number of teams could take a flier on a running back that fits their needs (zone-blocking scheme, heavy pass offense, pass-protection responsibilities, etc.). Trey Benson might have the most talent, but he may not be the best fit. So, looking at an underdog here is the move.

First offensive lineman drafted

PLAYER	ODDS
Joe Alt	-400
Taliese Fuaga	+350
Olumuyiwa Fashanu	+650
JC Latham	+1000
Troy Fautanu	+2300
Amarius Mims	+4000

Players listed at 100-1 or longer are not listed

At -400, the implication is that Notre Dame's Joe Alt is 80% likely to be the first offensive lineman selected. That assessment might be low given his potential at left tackle, but it's best to steer clear from laying four units to win one two weeks out with four other offensive linemen capable of going in the top half of the first round.

First defensive player drafted

PLAYER	ODDS
Dallas Turner	-190
Laiatu Latu	+400
Jared Verse	+600
Quinyon Mitchell	+600
Byron Murphy II	+1200
Terrion Arnold	+2500
Chop Robinson	+4500

Players listed at 80-1 or longer are not listed

Like former Alabama teammate Will Anderson last year, Dallas Turner is the favorite to become the first defensive player off the board in 2024. However, the markets for offensive linemen and wide receivers are more certain than here. Mel Kiper has Turner (No. 8) four spots ahead of Quinyon Mitchell (No. 12) in his latest mock draft, but the key is positional scarcity.

Top edge rushers are relatively scarce this year, so teams are incentivized to pounce on the one or two standouts. The Falcons (No. 8) have an obvious need at edge rusher, which also increases Turner's chances of going first among defenders.

First cornerback drafted

PLAYER	ODDS
Quinyon Mitchell	-200
Terrion Arnold	+200
Cooper DeJean	+500
Nate Wiggins	+2000
Kool-Aid McKinstry	+5000

Players listed at 100-1 or longer are not listed

Mitchell has shorter odds here than Turner has among defensive players. However, four corners, including Mitchell, are slotted in between No. 12 and No. 22 in Kiper's mock draft. Cornerback is rife with viable options, so that cluster may collectively drift down in favor of players manning more scarce positions. At which point, Arnold, DeJean, Wiggins, or even McKinstry could be taken over Mitchell if a team prefers their skill set for its defensive scheme.

As you can see, there are a multitude of ways to think about these markets with two weeks to go until the 2024 NFL Draft.

This time last year, we didn't know who was going No. 1. The signs started to point toward Bryce Young, but there was enough reason to believe C.J. Stroud might be in the mix that it wasn't worth betting until the price became too prohibitive.

The lead-up to the 2024 NFL Draft is more like when Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence went first overall, as Caleb Williams (no better than -400 throughout the 2023 season) is now -5000 to go No. 1 to the Bears. Therefore, the second pick, held by the Commanders, gets the spotlight for bettors.

No two drafts are the same, but it's worth remembering that after Young went No. 1 last year, there were plenty of juicy payouts for the subsequent picks in the 2023 draft (odds as of nine days before).

Player to be drafted 2nd overall

PLAYER	ODDS
Jayden Daniels	-135
Drake Maye	-110
J.J. McCarthy	+400
Caleb Williams	+4000
Marvin Harrison Jr.	+5000

(Odds source: theScore Bet)

Last year: C.J. Stroud (+350)

The debate between quarterbacks for the second overall pick is similar to the debate between Young and Stroud for No. 1 last year. Jayden Daniels recently nudged ahead of Drake Maye as the favorite.

The Heisman Trophy winner is probably still a good bet at -135 (57.4% implied probability) or better. But with weeks of subterfuge still to come, a better payout may become available (like Stroud last year), or Washington could admit that Daniels is its choice, and his odds become prohibitive.

Player to be drafted 3rd overall

PLAYER	ODDS
Drake Maye	-115
Jayden Daniels	+130
J.J. McCarthy	+350
Marvin Harrison Jr.	+1200

*Players with odds 60-1 or longer not listed

Last year: Will Anderson Jr. (+275)

It's easy to remember the top of the 2023 NFL Draft as Young versus Stroud, but just three days before, Stroud was available for as long as +400. With Williams a lock to go first overall, that scenario might manifest itself with the second and third picks. Daniels could go No. 2, but the Patriots are a team with new decision-makers who look ready for anything. That could mean taking the third-best QB available (Maye at -115), trading the pick, or taking the shiniest bauble outside of the quarterbacks.

Player to be drafted 4th overall

PLAYER	ODDS
Marvin Harrison Jr.	-190
J.J. McCarthy	+200
Drake Maye	+550
Jayden Daniels	+1200
Malik Nabers	+1400
Rome Odunze	+3500
Dallas Turner	+4500

*Players with odds 60-1 or longer not listed

Last year: Anthony Richardson (+1200)

Sure-fire superstar Marvin Harrison Jr. is the favorite to go No. 4, but New England could do something it never did under Bill Belichick - draft a stud wide receiver - and worry about the quarterback of the future later when they can inject one on a rookie deal into a more talented roster. Between that and some chance that the Cardinals could trade down (as they did last year) with a team interested in J.J. McCarthy, laying -190 on Harrison to be picked fourth seems like an unnecessary risk.

Player to be drafted 5th overall

PLAYER	ODDS
Malik Nabers	+200
Marvin Harrison Jr.	+225
J.J. McCarthy	+375
Joe Alt	+450
Rome Odunze	+1000
Drake Maye	+1400
J.C. Latham	+2000
Taliese Fuaga	+2000
Jayden Daniels	+2400
Brock Bowers	+3500
Dallas Turner	+3500

*Players with odds 50-1 or longer not listed

Last year: Devon Witherspoon (+3300)

This brings us to McCarthy, whom former head coach Jim Harbaugh called the "best quarterback in the draft." That praise doubles as a supportive nod from their time together at Michigan while sounding like he's hoping to entice another franchise to trade up into the fifth slot. That seems like the ideal scenario for the Chargers, who suddenly have multiple holes to fill.

McCarthy's stock has gone up since the end of the season, and his draft odds in every market have shortened with it. With his shortest odds of +200 (to go fourth overall), where he goes is the key to where other players fall into place. Given last year's mountain of lies and misdirection in the days leading up to the draft, that might result in some significant long shots landing in the various slots after Williams goes No. 1.

Harrison is expected to be a top pick after a standout career with the Buckeyes. He finishes his three years in Columbus with 155 receptions, 2,613 yards, and 31 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pounder totaled 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns on 67 receptions this season while the Buckeyes went 11-2. He posted three games with at least 160 receiving yards, scored a touchdown in all but two appearances, and earned an 89.9 overall grade from PFF.

Harrison is one of Ohio State's few draft-eligible players who are going pro this year. Cornerback Denzel Burke, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, and several others recently announced they'd be returning to school.

The 21-year-old is the son of longtime Indianapolis Colts wide receiver and Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr.

Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. said Thursday that he's undecided about what's next in his football career.

Harrison - the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr. - could enter the 2024 NFL Draft as arguably the top wideout available or return for another season with the Buckeyes, with whom he thinks he has some unfinished business.

"I'm still undecided," Harrison said, according to ESPN's Blake Baumgartner. "You guys know, coming into this year, I wanted to beat them up north (Michigan) and win a Big Ten championship. And obviously I didn't do that this year.

"So I think that's a great motive to come back, if that's what I decide to do, because that's something I definitely wanted to do in my Ohio State career. Not being able to have done that yet definitely opens the door for me to come back."

Ohio State finished the 2023 regular season 11-1, with the team's only loss coming against Michigan, which went on to win the Big Ten and claim a College Football Playoff berth as the No. 1 school in the country.

Beating the Wolverines and winning the conference has long been one of Harrison's main goals with the Buckeyes. However, Ohio State has lost its last three matchups versus its archrival.

"It's been real tough because, like I said before, that's kind of the one goal you have (when you come to Ohio State)," Harrison said of winning a Big Ten title. "I'm definitely blessed to be getting all the recognition that I am for these different awards. But I think I'd trade it all for a win against the team up north and get to Indy and play in the Big Ten championship."

Harrison is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and Biletnikoff Award, given to the most outstanding receiver in college football. The junior caught 67 passes for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He's the first Ohio State receiver to post 1,000-yard receiving seasons in back-to-back years.

Harrison amassed 2,613 yards and 31 TD catches over three seasons with the Buckeyes.

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., LSU passer Jayden Daniels, Oregon signal-caller Bo Nix, and Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. were named finalists for the Heisman Trophy on Monday.

The Heisman Trophy Trust will announce the winner on Saturday in New York.

Here's information on the four finalists:

Jayden Daniels

Key stats: 72.2% completion, 3,812 passing yards, 40 TDs

Jayden Daniels' production ascended to a dazzling level in 2023. The senior passer helped rank LSU at the of top the country in yards (547.8) and points per game (46.4). Individually, he led the nation with a 208.01 passer rating. Daniels also led the Tigers with 1,134 rushing yards, the second-highest mark in the SEC this season. The California native, who transferred to LSU ahead of the 2022 season, is the favorite to win the award.

Michael Penix Jr.

Key stats: 65.9% completion, 4,218 passing yards, 33 TDs

Washington punched its ticket to a playoff spot primarily because of Penix's play this season: The 23-year-old led the country in passing yards per game (324.5). After an electric start to the campaign in which he racked up 20 total scores through the first six games, Penix cooled down and collected 16 total touchdowns in the final seven games. The Huskies' prolific passer is aiming to be the first player in school history to win the award.

Bo Nix

Key stats: 77.2% completion, 4,145 passing yards, 40 TDs

Nix is contending to be the second Heisman winner in Oregon's history after Marcus Mariota accomplished the feat in 2014. Nix exceeded most of his 2022 stats, finishing the year with 46 total touchdowns as well as the highest completion rate (77.2%) in the country. His efficiency was on full display in his final year of eligibility, but the super senior came up short in the Pac-12 Championship Game: He posted season-lows in passing yards (239) and QB rating (144.05).

Marvin Harrison Jr.

Key stats: 67 receptions, 1,211 receiving yards, 14 TDs

The Ohio State wideout is the lone non-quarterback finalist this year. Harrison is among the top positional talents and led the Big Ten with 1,211 yards and 14 scores this season. The Buckeyes fell short of qualifying for the College Football Playoff, but the dynamic receiver still posted eight 100-yard games. The junior seeks to become the first Buckeye to win the award since Troy Smith in 2006 and the first non-QB since DeVonta Smith in 2020.

Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. heads into the 2023 season with a clear No. 1 priority for his standout college career: to finally take down Michigan.

"It burns a lot, especially when you haven't beaten them at all, so you don't even know what victory tastes like," Harrison said about the Buckeyes' two-game losing streak versus the Wolverines, according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. "Coming into this year, that's probably the biggest goal on my list. To beat that team up north and win a Big Ten championship."

In Harrison's two seasons at Ohio State, the team has yet to win The Game. The Buckeyes - who previously won eight consecutive meetings against the Wolverines from 2012-19 - have lost their last two matchups versus their archrival by a combined score of 87-50. They face off this season on Nov. 25 in Ann Arbor.

Harrison didn't take the field in the rivalry game in 2021 but finished last year's matchup with seven catches for 120 yards and one touchdown in a 45-23 defeat.

Despite not winning the Big Ten for the second straight year, Ohio State earned a College Football Playoff spot. Harrison then racked up five receptions, 106 yards, and two touchdowns in three quarters versus Georgia in the CFP semifinal but missed the entire fourth quarter after taking a hard hit from a Bulldogs defender. The Buckeyes, who had a 38-24 lead entering the final frame, ultimately fell to the Bulldogs 42-41.

"If I could've finished that game and we go on to the national championship, I have 100% confidence that we win that game, as well," Harrison said.

Harrison became Ohio State's first unanimous All-American wide receiver after catching 77 passes for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns in 13 games last year.
