Caleb Halley, who portrayed Florida State mascot Chief Osceola from 2004-07, was stabbed to death in an argument over gumbo spices.
According to police reports obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat, Halley and coworker Orlando Thompson were arguing about the amount of spice to put into the gumbo at Buddy's Seafood Market last Tuesday.
Each man armed themselves with knives, and Thompson slashed Halley three times across the torso. Halley died from his injuries Thursday.
