Missouri State introduces Dave Steckel as new head coach

Missouri State introduced Dave Steckel as its new head coach at a press conference Sunday, after a Saturday report that the now former Missouri defensive coordinator would become the Bears' new bench boss.

A finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, Steckel has been considered one of the best assistant coaches in the country and joins the Bears after 14 seasons with the Tigers.

"His reputation within the industry is impeccable, and he has a proven track record of success," said Missouri State athletic director Kyle Moats. "He has coached and recruited in the toughest league in America. His defenses have been at the top of the Big 12, SEC and national rankings in many statistical categories. With him, a new attitude and culture begins today."

Steckel will earn a base salary of $270,000 per year over the next five seasons, this will include radio and television show duties.
