The Big Ten is taking steps to improve student-athlete welfare by establishing enhanced concussion protocols throughout the conference.
The Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors announced on Monday that conference schools will adopt a conference-wide regulatory standard for concussion protocol, moving away from best practices and minimum requirements.
Further, an independent neutral athletic trainer will be present in the replay booth with their own monitor and the ability to directly contact officials on the field, in addition to continued presence of on-field doctors and athletic trainers.
Michigan's concussion protocol came under fire this season after the way Wolverines quarterback Shane Morris' head injury was handled by former head coach Brady Hoke and the athletic training staff.
