In response to Friday's ESPN "Outside the Lines" report that accused the University of Missouri of negligence with regards to the mental health of Sasha Menu Courey, a student-athlete who committed suicide after allegedly being sexually assaulted by member(s) of the football team, campus police have released information to the Columbia Police Department detailing names of individuals who may possess information on the incident.
After ESPN revealed that the assault took place off campus, the school has concluded that the investigation is now a state matter.
In response to allegations of mismanagement, UM maintains that they did not conduct an investigation because there was no complaint brought forth, and that privacy laws inhibit medical personnel from relaying confidential information without the patient's consent.
In their press release, the university states that they were not made aware of the alleged assault until late 2012, well after Courey's suicide in 2011.
