Florida State erased an 18-point deficit to pull off the greatest comeback in BCS title game history with a thrilling 34-31 victory over Auburn.

- Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston shook off a slow start to finish 20-of-35 for 237 yards and two touchdowns. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner found Kelvin Benjamin in the back of the end zone with 13 seconds left to complete the comeback and lift FSU to its fourth BCS championship. Winston had an unforgettable 20th birthday and was named offensive MVP for his efforts. He became the first freshman to win the Heisman and national title with the victory.
- Auburn running back Tre Mason had a monster game in a losing cause. The junior ran for 195 yards on 34 carries, including an incredible 37-yard TD run to give his team a late 31-27 lead.
- FSU returner Levonte Whitfield gave the Seminoles their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter when he returned a kickoff 100 yards to the house. The freshman finished the campaign with an incredible 34.4 yards per kickoff average.
