Michigan has fired offensive coordinator Jason Beck, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Beck was in his first season with the Wolverines, having followed head coach Kyle Whittingham from Utah. However, the unit has struggled massively, with Michigan averaging just 19.6 points per game and ranking 126th in the FBS in scoring.
Beck was the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the country at $3 million per season, according to Bruce Feldman and Austin Meek of The Athletic.
He is set to be owed $10.1 million, though that is subject to offset and mitigation, according to Thamel.
Offensive line coach Jim Harding has been named the interim offensive coordinator, per Thamel.
Michigan's struggles came to a head in recent weeks, with the team scoring no more than six points in two of its last three outings. That stretch includes a 15-6 loss Saturday to rival Michigan State.
The Wolverines have gotten disappointing quarterback play and development under Beck. Former five-star recruit Bryce Underwood threw five touchdowns and six interceptions before being demoted for Tommy Carr, who also has more picks (three) than touchdown passes (two).
Michigan is 5-4 and has lost two of its last three games.
