Alabama showed why the College Football Playoff committee held the Crimson Tide in such high regard earlier this week, storming into Death Valley and hammering LSU 31-13 on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide scored 21 points in the second half after taking a 10-3 lead into the locker room. The Tigers scored early in the third, but a beautiful touchdown pass from Keelon Russell put Alabama up by double digits early in the final frame.

Russell added another touchdown pass a few minutes later, sending LSU fans to the exits early. He finished the game completing 17 of 24 passes for 206 yards with three touchdowns and zero turnovers.

LSU outgained Alabama in the contest but also went 5-for-14 on third downs and 0-for-4 on fourth-down attempts. Quarterback Sam Leavitt completed 35 of 47 passes for 380 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Alabama's pass rush did a great job making Leavitt uncomfortable, recording four sacks and five tackles for loss. Its defense also held LSU to just 77 yards on the ground.

The Crimson Tide have won 14 of their last 16 matchups against the Tigers, including six of their last seven meetings in Baton Rouge.

LSU (6-3) will look to rebound against Texas next week, while Alabama (7-2) will travel to Nashville to face Vanderbilt.
