Michigan benched starting quarterback Bryce Underwood in Saturday's 21-18 win over Penn State, putting in Tommy Carr to begin the second half.
Underwood completed five of his 11 passes for 43 yards and threw two interceptions in the opening half as the Wolverines trailed the Nittany Lions 3-0 at home after two quarters.
Underwood has struggled at various points in his sophomore campaign at Michigan. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound passer was also picked off twice in the Wolverines' 20-14 loss to Minnesota last week.
The quarterback change helped spark the Wolverines' offense, which struggled to sustain drives in the first half. Carr guided Michigan to three scoring drives, including a 12-yard touchdown run of his own.
Carr completed 5 of 7 pass attempts for 47 yards.
Carr is the grandson of Michigan legends Tom Curtis and Lloyd Carr. The freshman passer is also the younger brother of Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr.
Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham had publicly supported Underwood despite his recent struggles.
