North Carolina announced Thursday that Michael Lombardi resigned as the general manager of the Tar Heels' football program.
The school had placed Lombardi on administrative leave at the end of July while it reportedly investigated a human resources complaint from a former member of North Carolina's front office.
"The university will continue its ongoing investigation and will consider all appropriate corrective actions responsive to the information it learns," North Carolina said in a statement, according to Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated.
Lombardi, 67, joined the Tar Heels alongside head coach Bill Belichick in December 2024. The two worked together a decade earlier on the New England Patriots from 2014 to 2016 after crossing paths on the Cleveland Browns in the early '90s.
Belichick went 4-8 in 2025, his first year coaching at the college level.
