Report: Napier finalizing 5-year deal with James Madison
James Madison is finalizing a five-year contract to hire former Florida boss Billy Napier as its head coach, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Napier will replace Bob Chesney, who's reportedly leaving for UCLA's head coaching job following James Madison's season.
The Dukes are expected to announce Napier's arrival Saturday.
Napier drew James Madison's attention for his previous success in the Sun Belt Conference, leading Louisiana to a 40-12 record over four seasons and earning Sun Belt Coach of the Year honors in 2019 and 2021.
However, Napier's time coaching in the SEC didn't yield the same level of success, as he finished 22-23 across three-plus seasons with Florida before being fired.
The Gators dismissed Napier after posting a 3-4 record in 2025.
