Report: Kiffin's decision delayed by desire to coach Ole Miss in CFP

The Lane Kiffin sweepstakes were scheduled to close Saturday, but the college football world is still waiting for the Ole Miss coach to choose between staying with the Rebels or leaving for LSU.

LSU officials are confident they have Kiffin's commitment to join the program, but their announcement is being held up by his desire to coach Ole Miss in the College Football Playoff prior to leaving for Baton Rouge, sources told Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

Ole Miss essentially clinched a playoff berth with Friday's Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State and still has an outside shot at playing for an SEC title next week in Atlanta should Auburn upset Alabama on Saturday night.

Kiffin's decision will likely topple a number of dominoes in the coaching world. Ole Miss would need to find a replacement if he leaves, joining Arkansas, Auburn, and Florida among SEC schools needing a coach. Tulane's Jon Sumrall is the favorite to land the Gators position, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Should Kiffin choose LSU, Alex Golesh could be the next option for Ole Miss. The South Florida coach is also high on the list for both Arkansas and Auburn.

Kiffin met with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter and chancellor Glenn Boyce on Saturday afternoon, but no resolution had been announced as of 8:30 p.m. local time in Oxford.
