Indiana is rewarding head coach Curt Cignetti with an eight-year contract extension that includes an annual salary of approximately $11.6 million, the school announced Thursday.

Cignetti, the 2024 Coach of the Year, is now under contract through Nov. 30, 2033.

"Put simply, Cig is a winner," Indiana University president Pamela Whitten said in a statement. "From last year's College Football Playoff appearance to this year's top-three national ranking, the IU football program's success has been tremendous. Curt and Manette Cignetti are home in Indiana, and we are delighted that the Cignetti family will be Hoosiers for many years to come."

The 64-year-old has done an impeccable job since joining Indiana prior to the 2024 season, following multiple winning campaigns at James Madison. He's posted a 17-2 record with the Hoosiers, including a 6-0 mark in 2025. Cignetti led the team to a College Football Playoff appearance last season.

Indiana sits No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25, the highest football ranking in school history.

Cignetti was rumored to be an obvious potential target for several major programs seeking a new head coach for next year, including Penn State.

The Hoosiers, coming off a statement victory over Oregon, return to action Saturday against Michigan State.
