Alexander dismisses transfer report, will remain at USC
USC defensive tackle Bear Alexander won't enter the transfer portal despite a report on Tuesday suggesting he intended to explore his options.
"I'm not crystal clear on all of the noise or what any of this portal mess is about," Alexander posted on X on Wednesday. "I'm here to finish what I started, and that's chasing a natty here at USC with my teammates."
The junior defensive lineman's statement arrives after reports from multiple insiders, including On3's Hayes Fawcett, indicated that he planned to enter the transfer portal for the second time in his collegiate career.
Alexander racked up 48 total tackles (6.5 for loss), 1.5 sacks, and four pass deflections for the Trojans in 2023.
Alexander's production came despite USC's struggles on defense. The program allowed 432.8 yards per game and 6.1 per play while surrendering 34.38 points per contest in 2023. Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch was fired in November.
The 21-year-old started his collegiate career with Georgia as a highly recruited prospect in 2022. Alexander was the No. 56 overall player and No. 5 defensive tackle on the ESPN 300.
Alexander has 9.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 25 career games with the Trojans and Bulldogs.
