Florida State agreed to terms with head coach Mike Norvell on a lucrative contract extension, the school announced Friday.

Norvell's new eight-year pact is worth more than $10 million per season, sources told Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger.

"We are thrilled that Coach Norvell has reaffirmed his commitment to Florida State University and our student-athletes," vice president and director of athletics Michael Alford said in a statement. "As we move forward into a bright future, it is incredibly reassuring to know that Mike remained steadfast and focused on continuing his unifying, collaborative relationships with all of us at FSU."

Norvell's contract extension ends speculation that he could be a candidate for the Alabama coaching vacancy following Nick Saban's retirement this week.

"I am so excited to continue our climb to push Florida State back to the top of college football," Norvell said.

The 42-year-old Novell led FSU to an ACC title with a 13-1 record in the 2023 campaign. Despite boasting a 13-0 mark before the final CFP rankings, the Seminoles became the first undefeated conference champions to not qualify for the CFP semifinals.

The Texas native boasts a 31-17 record in four seasons with the Seminoles. He joined FSU after serving as the head coach at Memphis from 2016-2019, where he established a 38-16 mark.

Florida State was handed a list of penalties on Thursday after the NCAA punished the program for NIL-related recruiting violations. Norvell was not mentioned in the infractions, but offensive coordinator Alex Atkins faces a pair of Level II violations among other penalties.
