Duke quarterback Riley Leonard has entered the transfer portal, the junior announced Wednesday.

The decision comes days after head coach Mike Elko left Duke for Texas A&M. Elko and his coaching staff improved a Blue Devils team that struggled mightily before his arrival. Duke posted a 16-9 record in the last two seasons after winning just three games in 2021.

Leonard entered the 2023 season as one of the nation's best quarterbacks after accounting for 33 touchdowns in 2022. However, he battled multiple injuries this year and finished the regular season with only three TD passes and three interceptions in seven appearances. Freshman Grayson Loftis finished the campaign as Duke's starter.

Known for his strong arm and mobility, Leonard will be one of the top players available in the upcoming offseason. Notre Dame is expected to target the junior passer, reports ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Senior quarterback Sam Hartman started all 12 games for the Fighting Irish in 2023.
