Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean will be sidelined the remainder of the 2023 season due to a lower leg injury, head coach Kirk Ferentz announced Wednesday.

"This is truly heartbreaking for Cooper," Ferentz said. "He has played extremely well and is a real playmaker on our team. We will all support Cooper during his recovery, which will continue into the new year."

DeJean has been a huge playmaker for the Hawkeyes throughout his career. He's intercepted two passes and scored one punt return touchdown this season.

The junior defensive back broke out in 2022, recording five interceptions and scoring four touchdowns. Three of his scores were pick-6s, while the other touchdown came via a return.

Iowa is currently 8-2 and sits first in the Big Ten West division.
