Highly touted quarterback recruit CJ Carr is joining Notre Dame's 2024 class, he announced Thursday, according to Tom Loy of 247Sports.

"When I knew that I found the right spot for me, I knew I wanted to get that out of the way and commit. Notre Dame is the spot," Carr said. "I fell in love with the campus the first time I was there. The relationship with (offensive coordinator Tommy) Rees and (head coach Marcus) Freeman has been built since that first (visit).

"I took three more (visits) and ultimately decided to commit to the Irish."

"Locking in my commitment as soon as possible is going to help our class, hopefully, be No. 1 in the country," he added, according to Kyle Kelly of Inside ND Sports.

Carr, considered one of the top pocket-passers in his class, is listed by most experts as a five-star prospect. He's the grandson of storied former Michigan coach Lloyd. CJ's dad, Jason, played quarterback for the Wolverines.

"Michigan will always hold a close place in my heart for me and my family, but I never saw myself going close to my hometown. Notre Dame is the perfect place," Carr said. "Not too far, not too close. I love the whole coaching staff. I love what they are doing with the quarterbacks. The offense they run is awesome, too. Everything about it, I love."

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound passer chose Notre Dame over finalists Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Georgia, and LSU.
