Four-star linebacker Jaishawn Barham signed with Maryland on Wednesday, just four days after initially committing to South Carolina.

Barham chose the Terrapins over finalists Oklahoma and Penn State.

The Baltimore native is the No. 7 outside linebacker and No. 65 overall recruit on the ESPN 300 for 2022.

Barham noted that his family played a significant role in his decision to join Maryland.

"Family, making sure my family is comfortable and I am comfortable," he said, according to Brian Dohn of 247 Sports.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder helps fill a void on defense for the Terrapins after linebackers Terrence Lewis and Branden Jennings entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Barham is the highest-rated commitment in Maryland's 2022 class. He joins running back Ramon Brown and wide receiver Shaleak Knotts among the Terrapins' recruits from the cycle.
