Report: Arizona State retaining Herm Edwards for 2022
Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson informed the team that head coach Herm Edwards will be back next season, per Brett McMurphy of The Action Network.
Edwards was adamant he'd return following Arizona State's win over Arizona on Saturday, telling reporters, "I'm the coach and I'm going to be the coach," according to The Athletic's Doug Haller.
News of Edwards being retained comes amid a reported NCAA investigation into potential recruiting violations committed by the program.
The Sun Devils are 8-4 under Edwards this season, including a 6-3 mark in conference play.
Edwards has been Arizona State's head coach since 2018. His eight wins this season are tied for his personal best in a campaign with the Sun Devils (2019). He owns a record of 25-17 with the team.
