Oregon State gives Jonathan Smith 6-year extension
The new contract runs through the 2027 season.
"Coach Smith has led the resurgence of our football program in a way that has made all of Beaver Nation proud," athletic director Scott Barnes said in a statement.
Smith has led the Beavers to a seven-win campaign, helping the program earn bowl eligibility for the first time since 2013.
The 42-year-old play-caller sports a 16-26 record across four seasons. The 2021 campaign marks his first winning season since taking over in 2018.
"I want to thank the Oregon State administration for making this commitment to our football program," Smith said. "I'm thrilled the work by everyone in our program has been noticed, and they are being rewarded to help us continue to build this in the best possible way."
An Oregon State alum, Smith played quarterback for the Beavers (1998-2001) and finished his collegiate career as the school's all-time passing leader with 9,680 yards.
The Beavers will seek their eighth win of the season Saturday when they take on rival Oregon.
