Sarkisian: 'I think we have to open' Texas QB job in 2022
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian signaled that the team's starting quarterback job could be wide open in 2022.
"I think we have to open that job up," Sarkisian said Monday, according to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman.
Sarkisian also added that he's open to a freshman recruit or transfer competing for the job.
Casey Thompson and Hudson Card have both spent time under center for Texas this season. Thompson has thrown for 1,943 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while Card has tossed five scores and one interception.
Sarkisian said that he's hopeful that both quarterbacks return to the program, according to Anwar Richardson of Rivals.
The Longhorns have slumped to a 4-7 record in their first season under the former Alabama offensive coordinator, losing six in a row after starting 4-1.
"I think our team has been hardened by a lot of stuff, but has brought us very close," Sarkisian said, per Davis. "That is a good place to be building into year two."
