College football fans will soon have another chance to understand what happened to Reggie Bush during his tenure at USC.

A documentary is in the works about the former running back and his days with the Trojans, according to Variety's Brent Lang.

The film, directed by Kirk Fraser, will show Bush's role in leading USC to multiple national championship game appearances and the scandal that cost him his Heisman Trophy.

"Providing Reggie with the opportunity to tell his story, in his words, and reclaim his legacy is a parable greater than this one man," Fraser said. "The heart of this story will explore one of the most infamous controversies in college football history and reveal the ongoing contentious culture inside collegiate sports."

Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 but relinquished the award in 2010 after the NCAA determined he received gifts while with the Trojans. The former tailback amassed 2,218 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns that year.

"After all these years, I'm finally ready to tell my story, I hope this can help drive change with the next generation of student-athletes," Bush said of the film. "We're making some progress, but there's still a long way to go."

The Heisman Trophy Trust recently said it's willing to return Bush's award if the NCAA reinstates his collegiate records for the 2005 season.

Bush notched 4,470 total yards and 38 touchdowns in three seasons with USC before the New Orleans Saints selected him second overall in the 2006 NFL Draft.

The 36-year-old will serve as executive producer alongside the documentary's production company, Believe Entertainment Group.
