College football games may end in a more timely fashion in 2021.
The NCAA approved a change on Thursday to the overtime rules for the upcoming season. It will require teams to attempt a 2-point conversion following a touchdown in the periods after the first overtime.
Under the previous format, the 2-point conversion was required only after the third overtime frame.
Additionally, teams will alternate 2-point plays instead of beginning a new drive at the opponent's 25-yard line if a game reaches the third overtime. The previous format required the use of 2-point attempts only in the fifth overtime.
The NCAA also listed multiple other points of emphasis for the 2021 season, including penalties for any taunting action directed toward an opponent.
