The 2020 Sun Bowl has been canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, sources told Brett McMurphy of Stadium.

This campaign will mark the first time since its inception in 1935 the game won't be played, ending the Sun Bowl's 86 consecutive season run.

The Sun Bowl was tied for the second-longest consecutively played bowl game behind the Rose Bowl, according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.

It's the ninth bowl game nixed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Pinstripe, Bahamas, Fenway, and Holiday bowls are among some of the other games scrapped this postseason.

The game was scheduled to take place on Dec. 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. The contest pits an ACC team against a Pac-12 opponent.
