Penn State's Brown could miss 2020 season due to medical condition

Penn State running back Journey Brown may miss the entire 2020 season due to an undisclosed medical condition, the school said in a statement, according to Mark Brennan of Lions247.

"Journey Brown is being treated for a medical condition discovered during the offseason and will potentially miss the 2020 football season," the statement read.

Brown rushed for 890 yards and 12 touchdowns through 13 games last season. He was considered one of the best runners in college football ahead of his junior campaign in 2020.

Penn State will now have to replace its leading rusher for the third straight season, as Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders left for the NFL over the last two years.

Sophomore Noah Cain appears to be the favorite to replace Brown. Cain racked up 443 yards and eight touchdowns on 84 carries through 10 appearances in 2019. The Nittany Lions also have four-star freshman Caziah Holmes on their depth chart.

Penn State is set to open its pandemic-shortened slate at Indiana on Saturday.
