Maryland received some good and bad news at quarterback Friday.

The NCAA approved Taulia Tagovailoa's transfer waiver, making the former Alabama quarterback eligible to play immediately, the school announced.

The news comes after projected starter Josh Jackson opted out of the season. Jackson was one of six Terrapins players to announce their decision Friday to skip the upcoming campaign.

Maryland also lost quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome earlier this offseason after he transferred to Western Kentucky.

Tagovailoa transferred to Maryland in May after spending the 2019 season as the No. 3 signal-caller at Alabama behind his brother, Tua, and Mac Jones. Taulia attempted just 12 passes as a freshman.

Tagovailoa will now be coached by Mike Locksley, who spent three seasons with Alabama's coaching staff from 2016-18.
