Ohio State fan launches 'Save Urban Meyer' petition

An online petition supporting Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has received more than 25,000 signatures as of Sunday afternoon.

The "Save Urban Meyer" petition, launched Thursday on Change.org by a fan named Blake Firestone, is directed at Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.

"Urban Meyer is on the hot seat and can be wrongfully fired from Ohio State it is up to us Buckeye Nation to help him not just for him but for THE Ohio State University and the great state of Ohio!" the petition reads.

Ohio State fans also plan to hold a "peaceful" on-campus rally Monday to show their support for Meyer, according to ABC6's Jackie Orozco.

Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday amid claims he knew of domestic violence allegations against former Ohio State assistant football coach Zach Smith. In a statement released on Friday, Meyer said he's "confident" he "took appropriate action."
