Report: Earliest NCAA could rule on immediate transfer is 2020 or 2021
The NCAA teased the potential for immediate transfer eligibility for student-athletes earlier this week, but it's reportedly a long way from becoming reality.
There are currently no proposals or votes to allow immediate transfers, sources told college football insider Brett McMurphy, and the earliest those rule changes could happen would be 2020 or 2021.
The NCAA announced Tuesday that the Division I Transfer Working Group will seek input on a "comprehensive package of concepts intended to improve the transfer environment for college athletics, coaches, and teams in Division I," according to Michelle Brutlag Hosick of NCAA.org.
The group will ask the Committee of Academics to review a one-time immediate eligibility clause, which would be tied "to a set of academic benchmarks" instead of to the sport the student-athlete plays.
The NCAA is also considering changes to the way student-athletes request and potentially receive permission to contact other universities.
The working group plans to collect input via a survey of "presidents, athletics administrators, faculty, and coaches on a variety of ideas."
