The underdog moneyline was made for the NCAA Tournament. A big upset is always riveting but never more so than when you've backed the little engine that could - and then they do. History is littered with unknown teams shocking the college basketball world, so very few options are out of the question when it comes to a single-unit bet distributed over five teams that have a chance to make history for their school.

Using the bracket as our guide, we'll pick out the most likely true upsets from five different seed lines to build a round-robin moneyline parlay.

How the round-robin ML parlay works

When there's a big slate of games and we have a handful of bets that include numerous underdogs, it's worth going for a big payout for a fraction of our weekly outlay. We parlay five underdogs together in 10 different three-team parlays. Using every combination of a three-team parlay is called a round robin, so we're going to use a total of 1.1 units to make 11 different bets: 10 three-team parlays and one five-team parlay, each for 0.1 units.

If three of five clubs pull off the upset, you'll at least double your money. If four squads win, you'll connect on four separate parlays. If all five win, then we're diving into a pool of gold coins like a young Scrooge McDuck.

Who to play

(9) Marquette (+150) over (8) North Carolina

We're playing the variance of both teams in this game. Neither has shown any consistency this season, and a blowout win is possible for either school.

If you're looking to back North Carolina in this tournament, using the Tar Heels to go on a mini-run by knocking off a better team - like Baylor - is a proper strategy. However, they're favorites in this game, which isn't an ideal position.

Marquette barely showed up to the Big East Tournament, and a pair of high-profile wins for North Carolina is creating an inflated moneyline price for the Golden Eagles.

(12) Indiana (+135) over (5) Saint Mary's

Wyoming seemed to go out of its way to help Indiana win on Tuesday, but that doesn't mean the Hoosiers aren't capable of being a problem in the main bracket. A rough travel circumstance may be deflating their value, but college kids should be able to bring some energy to the biggest games of their lives. Indiana can ride Trayce Jackson-Davis at least one more time, and its defense can disrupt Saint Mary's. The vaunted 12-seed upset doesn't always have to be a directional school from a small conference.

(15) Jacksonville State (+1100) over (2) Auburn

If you're not willing to get a little wild in March Madness, for a half-unit's worth of a bet, what are we doing all this for? When throwing a dart for a big-time upset, it's wise to target a team that's stumbled its way into the Tournament, and Auburn definitely qualifies. The Tigers' advantage is their athleticism, but Jacksonville State has that as well. Away from their friendly home confines, the Tigers better tighten things up at both ends or they could be victims of this year's surprise.

There are plenty of candidates within the group of 15-seeds and 14-seeds that pay out at 10-1 or better, so if you have more faith in Auburn and less faith in Villanova, Texas Tech, Duke, Kentucky, UCLA, or Tennessee, feel free to use their opponents instead. That doesn't sound as appealing, does it?

If this happens, we'll talk about it for years. If it doesn't, we'll forget about the dollars lost by the time the next games tip off Friday.

(11) Iowa State (+160) over (6) LSU

Speaking of variance, LSU is a walking example of "anything is possible." Playing to its full potential would result in an easy win, but Iowa State won't allow anything easy on defense. Offensively, the Cyclones and Izaiah Brockington could do just enough to get past a lost Tigers team.

(14) Colgate (+265) over (3) Wisconsin

Serendipitously, my favorite upset pick of the first round is one of the last games of the first round. Our hands might be sweating come late Friday night. This game could come down to which team makes more shots from beyond the arc, and there's no reason why that couldn't be Colgate.

The Raiders won't be intimidated by Wisconsin's athleticism, as they faced a hyper-athletic Arkansas team last year and hung around in the first half. A more confident group, one that waltzed through the Patriot League, will stun the Badgers and join the ranks of the 14-seeds to score an NCAA Tournament upset.

If you believe March Madness truly started when the calendar turned and the conference tournaments began, then you've already been on a wild ride. Luckily, an 18-11 ATS record and finding the winners of the SEC and Big Ten tournaments made it feel like we punched our own ticket to the Big Dance.

However, for eight teams, there's still another step to be truly included in the traditional 64-team bracket that is locked at noon Thursday. The First Four has tightly lined matchups, but will they be as tightly played as the betting market thinks?

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi vs. Texas Southern (-3.5, 136)

The answer to that question for the opener in Dayton is no. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi wins by getting the spotlight of a stand-alone game Tuesday night and by having one of the cooler campuses in the country.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi (located on its own island) offers 33 majors, including atmospheric and environmental science. TAMUCC also offers a TON of merit scholarships for incoming Islander freshmen in the top 20%. Plus, campus has a beach just for students. #featuredcollege pic.twitter.com/xyTA9poimj

The Islanders - I wonder where they got that name - will lose this game, though, and it may not be close. They're the worst team in the field, ranking 243rd per KenPom. Picked to finish last before the season, the 4-seed scored a pair of upsets in the Southland Conference Tournament to punch its ticket, but it faces another Texas team that has more history in March Madness.

Texas Southern won and covered a First Four game last season, and Johnny Jones' program has made the field of 68 six times since 2014. The Tigers returned four starters from the 2021 tournament and would have won the regular-season SWAC crown were it not for a pair of losses to Alcorn State. They responded by blowing out the Braves in Saturday's title game.

With a combination of depth, size, and athleticism that the Islanders don't possess, look for Texas Southern to easily move on to face Kansas.

Pick: Texas Southern -3.5

Wyoming vs. Indiana (-4, 132.5)

Blueblood Indiana is receiving the betting attention as this line has crept up since Sunday night's open. That's fine by me.

Wyoming got some buzz from a 12-1 mid-season stretch, but it finished 4-5 in the Mountain West - a conference that was as tough this season as ever. Despite his inexperience, Graham Ike developed into a problem this year, so Trayce Jackson-Davis will have his hands full down low. The Cowboys attack the block in an unusual way, with 6-7 guard Hunter Maldonado posting up smaller point guards and distributing out of the post.

It will be up to Indiana's coaching staff to find the game plan and matchups to deal with the unorthodox approach from the Cowboys. The Hoosiers' defense is the best side in this game, but that could be mitigated here. Only a second-half comeback against Michigan prevented Indiana from missing the tournament entirely, so my expectations are tempered here. The Hoosiers are a team I have lined as -1.5, but who are giving four.

Pick: Wyoming +4

Bryant vs. Wright St. (-3, 154.5)

What type of person do you want to be?

If you want to back the antics of the nation's leading scorer, Peter Kiss (25.1 PPG), then you're getting a few points to do so with Bryant. If you're looking to fade college hoops' newest villain, you missed the move on Wright State. The Horizon League champs opened as 1.5-point favorites, but money has come in on the Raiders, moving the line to -3.

We have a matchup of two of the three worst teams in defensive efficiency here, so there should be more than enough scoring to keep you entertained - beyond what Kiss has up his sleeve - but that's reflected in the high total.

After the point spread moved, this is now "underdog or pass." When it comes to Kiss and the Bulldogs, I'll pass.

Pick: Pass

Rutgers vs. Notre Dame (-1, 132)

There's an adage in the college hoops betting community: "Brey with prep."

Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey has pulled off numerous NCAA Tournament upsets when he's had ample time to prepare for his opponent, including back-to-back Regional Final appearances. He didn't get that opportunity in the ACC Tournament when Notre Dame's opponent - eventual champion Virginia Tech - was decided the night before its quarterfinal.

Now Brey has had plenty of time to work on his team and gets three days to have them ready for their opponent. A couple of late-season road wins saved Rutgers' season. Otherwise, there wasn't much to like about the Scarlet Knights' non-conference schedule and results away from home.

The Irish will move into the main bracket, becoming dangerous in the first round against Alabama and potentially beyond.

Pick: Notre Dame -1

Coach K's farewell tour

Legendary Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski is finally calling it a career after the upcoming campaign. He's guided the Blue Devils to five national championships, 15 ACC Tournament crowns, and nearly 1,100 wins during his illustrious 41-year run. However, don't expect the Hall of Famer to go out quietly.

Duke will be must-watch basketball this season with freshman phenom Paolo Banchero leading another strong recruiting class. Banchero has an NBA-ready body and affects the game at both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward can knock down shots from the perimeter, handle the ball in the open court, and defend at a high level.

With a transcendent talent like Banchero in the fold, a sixth Division I title for Coach K isn't out of the question.

The Memphis hype train

Penny Hardaway has recruited some of the top high school prospects during his Memphis tenure, but he doesn't have a single NCAA Tournament appearance to show for it. The four-time NBA All-Star will hope to change that under similar circumstances this season.

Projected top-five picks Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates reclassified and headline the nation's No. 1 recruiting class. The Tigers also return three starters from their 2021 NIT championship squad, and they added former top-40 prospect Earl Timberlake via transfer from Miami.

Memphis has been one of the NCAA's best defensive teams under Hardaway, finishing first and fifth, respectively, in opponent field-goal percentage over the past two seasons. The Tigers have the ingredients to make a Final Four run, though it'll be on Hardaway to maximize the players at his disposal.

A blue bloods renaissance

After a down season for some of college basketball's biggest programs, the blue bloods are officially back in 2021-22. All four of UCLA, Kansas, Duke, and Kentucky begin the season in the AP Poll's top 10, while North Carolina sits at No. 19.

Each one of these historically great schools has a must-watch team this season. UCLA brings back its entire core from a magical Final Four run, while Kansas retooled by adding transfer Remy Martin to a solid roster. Kentucky brings in a plethora of experienced transfers, and North Carolina begins life without legendary coach Roy Williams. Plus, of course, Coach K's farewell tour with Duke.

With all of these squads returning to peak form, the college basketball landscape feels right once again.

Gonzaga's continuing chase for national glory

Although Gonzaga lost three starters to the NBA, the team remains among the favorites to cut down the nets in New Orleans. Reigning Karl Malone Award winner Drew Timme and point guard Andrew Nembhard return from last season's offensive juggernaut. The Bulldogs duo is joined by a loaded recruiting class that features consensus No. 1 prospect Chet Holmgren as well as five-star guards Hunter Sallis and Nolan Hickman.

Between Timme's low-post dominance and Holmgren's perimeter touch, there might not be a better frontcourt tandem in college hoops. Gonzaga has fallen one win short of a national championship in two of the past five seasons. Can Mark Few and Co. finally finish the job?

Big men in the Big Ten

The Big Ten is putting its name on the line this season with most of the nation's best big men residing in the midwest.

The list begins with two second-team All-Americans in Illinois' Kofi Cockburn and Michigan's Hunter Dickinson. Both stand at over 7-feet, and both use their physical presence to dominate the action down low. Not to be outdone, Ohio State's E.J. Liddell and Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis are smaller, mobile bigs who can light it up offensively.

This is all before mentioning Purdue's duo of Trevion Williams and 7-foot-4 Zach Edey, who'll spend time sharing the floor for the Boilermakers. There's a real possibility that five big men from the Big Ten make their way onto an All-American team this season.

Chris Beard's overhaul

If Chris Beard could take middling Texas Tech to the National Championship game, the sky's the limit with the resources he has with Texas.

Beard has already put together an All-Star cast of assistant coaches and a deep, talented roster. He landed three transfers that made an All-Conference team at their previous schools and brought back two of Texas' three leading scorers from last season. The Longhorns have a legitimate case at having the best 10-man rotation in the country.

It'll be fascinating to watch Beard work his magic at a program with such high expectations. The lights will shine brightly in Austin this season as a team with deep March Madness aspirations looks to make its mark.

42:T360f,

A lot has changed since Baylor captured its first national championship seven months ago.

Players transferred at a record rate, multiple highly touted recruits reclassified, and a college basketball icon announced his imminent retirement.

All of the above should make for a compelling NCAA hoops campaign.

Here are six storylines to watch throughout the 2021-22 season.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club unveiled its national ballot for the 2021 John R. Wooden Award on Saturday, with 15 players from 10 different schools up for consideration this year.

Player	School	Conf.	Year	Pos.
Jared Butler	Baylor	Big 12	Junior	G
Corey Kispert	Gonzaga	WCC	Senior	F
Jalen Suggs	Gonzaga	WCC	Freshman	G
Drew Timme	Gonzaga	WCC	Sophomore	F
Kofi Cockburn	Illinois	Big Ten	Sophomore	C
Ayo Dosunmu	Illinois	Big Ten	Junior	G
Trayce Jackson-Davis	Indiana	Big Ten	Sophomore	F
Luka Garza	Iowa	Big Ten	Senior	C
Hunter Dickinson	Michigan	Big Ten	Freshman	C
E.J. Liddell	Ohio State	Big Ten	Sophomore	F
Cade Cunningham	Oklahoma State	Big 12	Freshman	G
Evan Mobley	USC	Pac-12	Freshman	F
Collin Gillespie	Villanova	Big East	Senior	G
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl	Villanova	Big East	Sophomore	F
Charles Bassey	Western Kentucky	Conference USA	Junior	C

Top-ranked Gonzaga has the most candidates with three, including Corey Kispert, Jalen Suggs, and Drew Timme. Illinois and Villanova received two nominations apiece, though Wildcats senior Collin Gillespie will miss the rest of the season due to a torn MCL.

Iowa big man Luka Garza is the lone member of the ballot previously named as a finalist. He finished runner-up in 2020 to Obi Toppin.

Voting for the award is scheduled for March 15-22. It'll factor in a player's entire season to that point, including the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

A trimmed-down list of finalists will be revealed March 26. The Player of the Year is traditionally announced in April.

College basketball is officially returning after the original start date was pushed back a few weeks.

Plenty of fresh faces and familiar names are eager to take the court and begin a journey that will hopefully take them to the Final Four.

Here are a few of the players to keep an eye on this season.

10. Brandon Boston Jr., G, Kentucky

Boston is the latest projected one-and-done prospect to enter the Kentucky pipeline. The 6-foot-7 wing spent the past year at powerhouse Sierra Canyon playing alongside Stanford commit Ziaire Williams and Bronny James. He's improved his jump shot considerably and shouldn't have much trouble scoring at the collegiate level.

Boston can create separation from defenders on step-backs, doesn't shy away from contact, and has the range to pull up from anywhere on the floor. His size and 7-foot wingspan will allow him to defend multiple positions.

9. Evan Mobley, C, USC

USC will miss Onyeka Okongwu's presence in the paint, though Mobley should be an equally good replacement for one of the NCAA's top-producing big men. The 19-year-old was the third-ranked recruit in the 2020 class after a standout high school career.

Mobley averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 4.6 assists during his senior year. He was part of a select few chosen to play in this year's McDonald's All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit.

Like Okongwu, the 7-foot center has a versatile skill set. Mobley can go to work in the post, face up from the perimeter, contest shots with his length, and carry the ball from coast to coast.

8. Trayce Jackson-Davis, F, Indiana

Jackson-Davis made an immediate impact during his freshman year at Indiana, averaging team highs in points (13.5 per game), rebounds (8.4), and blocks (1.8) over 32 appearances in 2019-20. The 6-foot-9 forward also earned All-Big Ten third-team honors and posted the conference's fourth-highest true shooting percentage (60%).

Jackson-Davis was effective at running the floor in transition and provided an active presence on the glass. His willingness to play through contact often resulted in trips to the charity stripe. The Hoosiers star was one of eight Big Ten players recently named to the preseason Naismith Trophy watch list.

7. Marcus Zegarowski, G, Creighton

If Zegarowski can stay healthy, Creighton has a real shot to claim its second straight Big East regular-season title. The 6-foot-2 guard had a strong sophomore year, registering 16.1 points per game and a conference-leading 58.8% effective field-goal percentage last season. He also shot 42.4% on nearly six triples per contest and ranked third in the Big East with an average of five assists.

Zegarowski can single-handedly take over a game as a scorer or facilitator. He's confident in big moments, he has the court vision to pick out cutters and shooters, and he can change speeds effortlessly.

With Ty-Shon Alexander off to the NBA, the Bluejays are officially Zegarowski's team and will expect him to elevate his game even further.

6. Remy Martin, G, Arizona State

Martin tested the NBA draft waters earlier this year but opted to return for one last season at Arizona State. The Sun Devils are a legitimate Pac-12 contender with Martin back in the fold and all eyes will be on the floor general as he attempts to lead the school to its first-ever Final Four appearance.

Martin recently became just the second Arizona State player to be named an AP preseason All-American. He has developed from a high-energy reserve as a freshman to one of the nation's most dynamic guards. During his junior year, Martin averaged 19.1 points, 4.1 assists, 3.1 boards, and 1.5 steals.

The 22-year-old has the speed and explosiveness to finish at the rim as well as the ability to pull up on a dime. Martin should have more opportunities to showcase his playmaking skills with the addition of McDonald's All-American Josh Christopher, four-star recruit Marcus Bagley, and high-scoring transfer Holland Woods.
