VIDEOS: Monmouth, Iona escorted off court after postgame tussle
Before Monmouth and Iona went at it Friday night, Gaels head coach Tim Cluess had some choice words for his animated opponents.
Beyond the fact that he doesn't appreciate the Monmouth bench's antics very much, he went as far as saying, "They're not basketball players."
Unlucky for him, that group he fails to acknowledge as athletes handed it to his squad 110-102 Friday night, putting an end to Iona's 26-game home winning streak. Needless to say, things got more than just chippy after the game, as Iona's Jordan Washington slapped Monmouth's Chris Brady and the two teams had to be forcibly separated.
This is probably what sparked Iona's postgame reaction.
But after all was said and done, it didn't matter because Iona is 9-7 and Monmouth is 13-4 while having won nine of its last 10. Hawks coach King Rice knows this, and he has no problem showing it.
