5 football teams, 4 basketball teams receive postseason bans due to low APR

Alabama State, Florida A&M, Gardner-Webb, Savannah State, and Tennessee State have had their football programs declared ineligible for the 2015-16 postseason due to their low Academic Progress Rate.

Alcorn State, Central Arkansas, Florida A&M, and Stetson have had their men's basketball programs declared ineligible for the 2015-16 postseason due to their low APR.

APR measures the academic progress of an institution's student-athletes through a calculation which accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete over the course of an academic term.

In 2015-16, a total of 21 teams will be ineligible for postseason play due to their low APR, the NCAA announced Wednesday. That's down from 42 a year ago.

As a whole, student-athletes have showed continued improvement in the classroom, earning record-high marks as measured by the NCAA's APR.
