Villanova freshman Cam Whitmore has declared for the NBA draft, he told The Athletic's Shams Charania on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-7 small forward is projected to be a top-10 pick this summer.

"I just talked with my parents just to see if this is the right fit, the right time. They always encouraged me ... Going to the NBA was my dream, and I'm happy that I'm making that dream come true," Whitmore said.

Whitmore was the 22nd-ranked recruit on the ESPN 100 for 2022. The 18-year-old was a bright spot in a down season for the Wildcats, averaging 12.5 points, 5.3 boards, and 1.4 steals over 26 appearances. He made nearly 35% of his 3-point attempts and registered double digits in scoring on 15 occasions.

Whitmore was also the Big East's Freshman of the Year and a unanimous selection to the conference's All-Freshman team.
