Texas' Disu day-to-day with foot injury ahead of Elite Eight
Texas interim head coach Rodney Terry announced forward Dylan Disu is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his left foot ahead of the Longhorns' Elite Eight clash against Miami on Sunday.
Disu exited Friday's Sweet 16 matchup versus Xavier after just two minutes and later returned to the bench in a walking boot. The senior sustained the injury in the previous round against Penn State.
Terry wasn't going to play Disu for many minutes against Xavier but wanted to reward the fourth-year player for his hard work.
"The last thing you want to do is put a young man out there that's not ready to go full tilt," Terry told reporters postgame Friday. "I wanted to give him that moment, though, to start the game and have a couple trips because he's worked so hard and he's earned the right to be here in a regional."
Disu is having a breakout NCAA Tournament, averaging 22.5 points and 10 boards through the first two rounds. His 28-point performance versus the Nittany Lions was the most for a Longhorns player in the Big Dance since Kevin Durant in 2007.
Disu also played a huge role in Texas' run to the Big 12 Tournament title, posting double digits in scoring in each contest, including 18 in the championship game against Kansas.
The Longhorns are one win away from their first Final Four berth in 20 years.
