Report: Notre Dame hiring Shrewsberry to 7-year deal

Notre Dame is finalizing a deal with former Penn State bench boss Micah Shrewsberry to be its next head coach, sources told CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.

Shrewsberry is reportedly signing a seven-year contract with the Fighting Irish.

The 46-year-old spent the past two seasons leading the Nittany Lions and had long been Notre Dame's preference to succeed departing head coach Mike Brey, according to Norlander. However, talks between the two parties reportedly did not develop until after Penn State was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Texas on Saturday.

Shrewsberry went a combined 37-31 in two seasons at Penn State but orchestrated a turnaround for the program in Year 2. After going 14-17 overall and 7-13 in the Big Ten in his first campaign, Shrewsberry guided the Nittany Lions to a 23-14 overall record, including a 10-10 conference mark, and took them to the Big Ten Tournament final where they narrowly fell to Purdue.

Their 2022-23 campaign earned them a 10th seed and their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2011. Penn State defeated seventh-seeded Texas A&M in the opening round before falling to the Longhorns in Round 2.
