Former Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. will be the subject of an upcoming documentary.

The film, one of the first projects from newly launched studio RTG Features, will feature interviews with former players, journalists, influential leaders, and Washington, D.C. icons, and the last interviews Thompson gave before his death in August, according to Amanda N'Duka of Deadline.

Kirk Fraser, whose past work includes the ESPN "30 for 30" feature "Without Bias" and the documentary "Basketball County: In the Water," will direct.

"The Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team shaped a major part of Black American culture in the 1980s," Fraser said. "Coach John Thompson represented Black excellence and that is what he brought out of those men on and off the court."

Thompson coached at Georgetown from 1972 to 1999, amassing a 596-239 record in 27 seasons. He became the first Black coach to win an NCAA championship in 1984, and Thompson was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
