Illinois star Ayo Dosunmu has declared for the NBA draft, he announced Wednesday on social media.

The 6-foot-5 sophomore guard hasn't hired an agent and will maintain his college eligibility throughout the draft process, he told CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. Underclassmen can maintain their remaining NCAA eligibility if they withdraw from the draft process by June 3, though that deadline is tied to the draft's originally scheduled date of June 25.

Dosunmu ranked fifth in the Big Ten in both scoring (16.6 points per game) and field-goal percentage (48.4%) this past season. He also earned All-Big Ten first-team honors and was the Fighting Illini's go-to option in the clutch.

The 20-year-old is projected to be an early second-round pick in the latest mock draft by The Athletic's Sam Vecenie.

Dosunmu's potential return to Illinois would boost a program that finished one game back of the Big Ten regular-season title in 2019-20. The Fighting Illini posted a 21-10 overall record this past season, including a 13-7 mark in conference play.
