Former Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg is expected to be the frontrunner for Nebraska's head coaching position once Tim Miles is let go, a source told Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

Nebraska is set to play Butler on Thursday in the National Invitation Tournament. Athletic director Bill Moos previously said he would wait until season's end before making a decision on Miles' future.

The Bulls fired Hoiberg in December after a 5-19 start to the season. The 46-year-old coached Chicago to a 115-155 record - including one playoff appearance - in parts of four seasons.

Hoiberg had a successful five-year tenure at Iowa State before making the jump to the NBA. He led the school to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances highlighted by a Sweet 16 berth during the 2013-14 season.

The Cornhuskers were 6-14 in Big Ten play this season and 18-16 overall.
