"The Shrieker" has been silenced.

Emily Harriott, a Northwestern senior known for shrieking during Wildcats basketball games, has been told to stop after the school received complaints from fans and television and radio partners following Sunday's 68-66 win over Illinois, according to Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune.

Harriott regularly meets with Heather Obering, the athletic department's director of marketing, as part of her duties as president of Northwestern Wildside, the official Wildcats student section. It was during their latest meeting that Harriott was asked to quiet down.

"It caught me a little by surprise because I've been doing it for the last three-and-a-half years," Harriott said.

Although she's no longer allowed to shriek, Harriott will continue to attend games.

"This team is a literal privilege to watch," she said.
