ACC coaches recommend NCAA Tournament expansion to 72 teams

During the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) spring meetings, the conference's basketball coaches put forward recommendations to expand the NCAA Tournament field from 68 to 72 teams, according to college football insider Brett McMurphy.

They also recommended that the 3-point line be moved back and the lane be widened. They were not in favor of switching the games to four quarters from two halves, McMurphy added.

Considering NCAA Tournament appearances are usually the main barometer of a coach's success, it's not surprising to see the group recommend this move to the NCAA.

The conference's commissioner, John Swafford, was also on board with the changes recommended by the coaches.

"The idea of having two First Fours, if you will, maybe geographic," Swafford told the Herald Sun. "That's such a quick turnaround. You could have one maybe in Dayton and one in the western part of the states."
