The University of Connecticut men's basketball program has fired head coach Kevin Ollie, the school announced Saturday morning.

"The University of Connecticut has initiated disciplinary procedures to terminate the employment of Head Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Ollie for just cause," the school said in a release, according to SNY.tv's Adam Zagoria. "The University will have no further comment on the matter until the completion of both the University’s disciplinary process and the ongoing NCAA investigation.”

Director of Athletics David Benedict added that the school "will begin a national search" to find Ollie's replacement, and that "it is unfortunate that this decision became necessary."

During Ollie's six years on the job, the Huskies accumulated a record of 127-79, capturing the NCAA championship in 2014. UConn was recently bounced in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament after losing 80-73 to SMU on the heels of a 14-18 season, though.

It was back in January when Ollie issued a statement concerning UConn being under investigation by the NCAA for potential rule violations with recruiting.

"With regard to the inquiry directed at our men’s basketball program, I want to express that we will cooperate fully with NCAA as this process moves forward as we are committed to promoting an atmosphere of compliance with NCAA regulations," his statement read, according to The Hartford Courant's Dom Amore.

Ollie took over as coach in 2012 after Jim Calhoun announced his retirement.
