Paul George gets cover of NBA 2K16 companion app

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Six games was all the folks at 2K Sports needed to see to make Paul George their cover athlete for NBA 2K16.

Kind of.

The Indiana Pacers star is on the cover of the MyNBA2K16 companion app, George revealed Wednesday.

The primary cover has Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden sharing space, with a special edition Michael Jordan cover also available. The companion app launches for free on Oct. 1 and allows players to explore new features, view their MyCAREER screen, and play the MyTEAM Mobile card game.

George getting the nod for the mobile extension speaks to the staying power of his name after nearly an entire season lost due to a broken leg. He returned on April 5 for a brief stint with the Pacers to close the year and shake any rust off, averaging 8.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15.2 minutes.

Prior to the injury, George was one of the league's burgeoning superstars, a high-end wing defender with a developing offensive game. He'll be leaned on heavily at both ends this coming season, including potential time out of position at power forward. The Pacers are aiming for a return to the playoffs, and George himself is taking aim at the league's MVP award.

A two-time All-Star, George averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals in 2013-14, knocking down 36.4 percent of his 3-point attempts, while being named to the All-Defensive first team and All-NBA third team.
