Kevin Garnett is entering his 21st season in the NBA, tying the 39-year-old with Robert Parish and Kevin Willis for the longest runs as an active competitor in league history.
ESPN's Marc Stein first reported that the 15-time NBA All-Star had agreed to a two-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, who acquired him prior to the trade deadline for Thaddeus Young. His new salary wasn't disclosed at the time, however, Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press is now reporting that Garnett's two-year deal will be worth $16 million.
Making an assumed $8 million per year at his age is anything but a discount, but with this being the final contract of his career, you can't blame the man for trying to get every last penny he can.
Minnesota's frontcourt attack will lie in the hands of rookie Karl-Anthony Towns, with Garnett serving more of a mentor role instead of being a steady on-court presence, as the veteran's minutes have steadily declined over the past five seasons.
Garnett suited up for the Timberwolves for the first 12 years of his career before being dealt to the Boston Celtics in July 2007. He's averaged 18.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 1,424 career games, winning the Most Valuable Player award in 2004 and a championship with the Celtics in 2008.
