Wiggins will play for Canada this summer
A little fatigue won't keep Andrew Wiggins from representing his country.
Wiggins is set to play in his 82nd game of the season for the Minnesota Timberwolves and will finish his debut campaign in the top two in total minutes played, but the 20-year-old confirmed Wednesday he will play for Canada this summer.
The Canadian senior team, managed by Steve Nash and coached by former Toronto Raptors coach (and current Trail Blazers assistant) Jay Triano, will take part in both the Pan Am Games in Toronto in July and the FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico later in the summer.
Whether Wiggins will play in both isn't yet clear.
Wiggins said Wednesday he'll be able to get the necessary rest his body needs between the end of his first NBA season and the beginning of his duties with Canada.
He has averaged 16.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and a steal in what looks to be a Rookie-of-the-Year-quality season that puts him in some lofty historical company.
Fellow rookies Nik Stauskas and Tyler Ennis will also be representing Canada this summer, according to the Toronto Sun's Ryan Wolstat, while restricted free agents Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph could also join the fray for a rising Canadian squad.
