The Orlando Magic parted ways with veteran forward Jonathan Isaac after nine seasons, the team announced Saturday.
Isaac, the sixth overall pick in the 2017 draft, had three seasons left on the five-year, $84-million extension he signed in July 2024. However, only $8 million of his $14.5-million salary next season was guaranteed; the rest would have become guaranteed after Sunday, according to Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel.
Once a consistent piece of the Magic's rotation as one of their top defenders, Isaac has struggled to stay on the floor since tearing the ACL in his left knee during the Orlando bubble in 2020. The 6-foot-10 forward missed over two full campaigns due to the injury, and he's played more than 60 games in just one of four seasons since returning.
Isaac averaged just 10 minutes across 52 contests last season, registering 2.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. The 28-year-old is averaging 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks over seven career seasons.
